About Tom Gainsborough
Tom has over 30 years’ experience
in the hospitality and catering business. His passion for food
began at the tender age of six when he began memorizing cookbooks
for fun. He often astonished his family by recreating the more
challenging dishes he had read about to their great pleasure. He
began his professional career at fourteen and it was not long
before he made a name for himself.
Earning a degree from Pennsylvania
State University in their Hotel and Food Administration Program
helped prepare him for a lifetime career in the business.
Beginning at the age of 21 he apprenticed at a highly acclaimed
French Restaurant in Philadelphia, PA (La Terrace) under the
tutelage of Several European Chefs, mastering every skill in
each department of the kitchen, he rose through the ranks to
become the Executive Chef.
Tom opened his first Restaurant at
24 and rode the crest of the American Food Revolution, becoming
a huge success. The Café he opened in the early 70s became a
guide for many restauranteurs to follow and he was often
mentioned in national Magazines for his innovative recipes and
management techniques.
His diversified experience has included positions as a Maitre
D’, Executive Chef, Food and Beverage Director, General Manager,
Events Manager, Human Resource Director, Events Coordinator,
Hospitality Director, and Sales and Catering Manager.
His
Radio Show “The Gadabout Gourmet” ran for several years
and gained wide recognitions on the Central Coast. His life long
passion for world travel and international gourmet foods and
preparations gave him a solid footing to parry with his famous
culinary guests, to the delight of his listeners; He inspired, educated, and
enlightened people to the fine nuances of travel,
service and cuisine. Besides his own businesses, Tom has
opened three successful restaurants for other people.
